Founded in 2003 by Dr. David Crowe — a father of an individual with autism — The Tailor Institute exists to help individuals with autism live, work, and thrive on their own terms.
OUR STORY
A father's vision became a movement for independence.
The Tailor Institute was founded in 2003 by Dr. David Crowe, a father whose own son lives with autism. From the beginning, the work has been deeply personal — built on the belief that every individual on the spectrum deserves the chance to develop the skills, confidence, and community that lead to a more independent life.

What began as a single program has grown into a comprehensive set of services — from our unique assessment for individuals 16 and older, to skills development through our DMH-funded services, to social experiences that build belonging across Cape Girardeau, St. Louis, Sikeston, and beyond.
Today, our team carries forward Dr. Crowe's founding mission with the same conviction: that every person is created with purpose, and that with the right tools, that purpose can be fully lived.

Dr. David Crowe establishes TTI in Cape Girardeau, Missouri — built on the conviction that individuals with autism deserve a path to greater independence.
Growing Years
Programs expand
Assessment, L.I.F.E. Group, Social Circle, Saturday Clubhouse, and more take shape — each grounded in real-world skills.
DMH Partnership
Contracted with Missouri DMH
Services become accessible through DMH funding — Employment, Skills Development, and Community Networking for eligible participants.
